He hears our every thought...

“When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts?” Luke‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬

Think about what this means…

Jesus perceived their thoughts. He perceived the thoughts of someone who did not believe in Him. He knew what they were thinking.

This was during his earthly ministry, at a time when He was choosing to live within the limitations of His human nature, and not making use of the fullness of His divine nature. Imagine now, when He has once again ascended on high, seated at the right hand of His Father in the heavenly places, fully divine, and yet also fully perfected in His humanity.

The Lord can hear every thought of every human, whether they are His or they are not. This should cause us to tremble when our thoughts are wicked, but it should also give us great comfort, because even when we are not able to speak, whether due to the heaviness of our grief, or to some physical condition that does not allow us to use our voice to communicate, the Lord hears our very thoughts.

If we can just reach out to Him from within our own minds, He can hear our prayers. Think about what this means to those who are on their deathbeds, those in hospice care, or those with some physical infirmity…who no longer have the capacity to use their own voice for prayer. Think about what this means to those who are born mute. Think about what this means to the one who is silenced by force or oppression.

The Lord hears our very thoughts. If we can but think the words, “Jesus save me.”, we will be saved.
